Who are we?

We are a handful of guys and girls, Ismaili and non-Ismaili, American and Canadian, who believe that one shouldn’t have to pay to meet singles on the Internet… or for anything on the Internet, really. We are geographically dispersed, we're a creative group, and we’re looking to build an Ismaili singles community.

Why us?

So why use this site as opposed to the others that cater to the Ismaili community? There are a couple out there. Ismailidate.com and Ismailispark.com are the two that come to mind.

Communicating with people on Ismailidate.com and Ismailispark.com is like getting a political appointment in Illinois – you have to pay to play. The costs are in the neighbourhood of $20/month, depending on the length of the commitment.

This site is different in that respect. First, it is not a 'dating' site; it's a singles community, which means we want people to be able to connect very easily and without excessive pressure or expectations. It is FREE - yes free to register and communicate with others - and we will likely continue to offer it for free until web hosting fees become prohibitive. There are two reasons that we can do this:

• We write the code for this site ourselves (as opposed to outsourcing or purchasing the code).
• Charging for communicating is not our business model; in fact, we don’t have a business model just yet. If you can think of one for us, please contact us or post on the Suggestions section to let us know. Maybe we’ll hold a business model competition.

Now with our site there are some key differences:

• You are limited in the number of NEW contacts per day that you may initiate - 2 per day. Note that you can send an unlimited number of emails to people that contact you first and to people that you have previously contacted – this does not come out of your quota. We have implemented this to thwart spammers and fools (people that contact everyone willy-nilly). We hope that people will use their daily quota judiciously (if you feel you need more you can e-mail us… but you’re explanation of why this is necessary would have to be very impressive. If you are not getting responses, you might want to give some thought to changing your profile or better customizing your introductory message).
• We don’t ask people for more information than we need, though you're welcome to provide as much as you want to.
• Our search function is clearly superior, allowing you to perform highly targeted or very broad searches. Check it out for yourself.

Because we let people communicate freely (for example through the discussion boards associated with each survey, or through the site's blogging capability), our site is more of a singles community than a dating service. We are looking at expanding in this direction. Do check out our surveys and contribute to the discussion.
